Butt Seriously Folks......

My kids are terrified that I'll post
something like this post....
all I can say - is come over and stop me
Love you!
(and I didn't scan and post the actual scan)
(or maybe I will at a later date?)
Well, most adults are to have a colonoscopy at 50,
I didn't follow that rule and just barely had one at 52.
My friend (name dropper) is Kendyl Bell (name dropper)
she's a friend and my Zumba instructor (name dropper)
also Miss Utah USA (name dropper)
.
She posted about the day her brother found out
he had colon cancer because of a colonoscopy,
he's in his 20's.  Too young.  But caught it
IN TIME - isn't that what it's all about?
It was heartbreaking for her and I spent
a bit of time talking with her about it.
She encouraged me to get one and so I made
that appointment.

It was seriously a worry - because there are
NO SYMPTOMS to colon cancer.
I always read the Billboard about
DOUG MILLER
dying of it because he just never went in.

Didn't want to be on a Billboard

The prep was the
GAGGIEST THING EVER.
My pharmacist encouraged me to just
'bottoms up' on the liquid prep
(well - she thought that was funny)
but it proved to be the best way to deal
with drinking all of that goo.
(I chose a lovely Citrus Berry flavor)
Then I made sure there were some great
movies to watch in my 'office' (bathroom)
and I made the best of an uncomfortable
situation (the situation of death).

I loved my doctor - my 'Buttdoc' I called her...
She is from India - and she is SO FUNNY -
she's heard ALLLLLLL of the jokes....
So in her honor I will post my Facebook Funnies
later in this post.
(Thank you Doctor Reddy for having warm hands)

The procedure only took 20 minutes.
My colon is a beautiful thing,
and is 100% happy and cancer free.
(Whew)
Also - it was free,
yep - who might want to know
something for FREE??
ME!
(Most insurances cover the screen 100%)

Needless to say - hope you all
are able to get one scheduled if you need to.
If you are reading my blog
(well except you from Nairobi)
that means that you are someone
I care about.
Get it done!

Thanks Kendyl
You inspire.
(Best of luck on MISS USA!)

Spiritual Soap Box

My Grandma Elizabeth Hill passed away when my mom was only 15.  I never met her - her on earth, but perhaps she was the one that sent me to this earth.  My mom has told me many stories of her, and I tell them to my children so they'll know the greatness of their heritage.  One story is of my Grandma's never failing trips to the Logan Temple.  As members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints - we have beautiful Temples, dedicated to the Lord.  We are asked to be worthy and to follow certain guidelines to enter those temples.  We make covenants and promises there that builds our testimonies of Eternal Live with our families.  It isn't easy in this world to live to those standards and sometimes we have to change things about our life to make it right to enter those temples, but it's worth it.  The promises there are right and true, enduring and oh so amazing when you are taught by the Spirit how important we are to our Heavenly Father and his son Jesus Christ.  Grandma couldn't walk very well - she had arthritis and it was very painful for her to get from place to place.  But on Monday mornings she would get up early and put the soup on - bake the bread before the sun came up - and walk to the 'worm' or the train that circled the valley.  Then she would spend the entire day in the temple. She never missed, even in subzero temperatures, she made it there and back.  Her life was hard, and yet, she knew that when she returned home, all would be made right.  She is my inspiration, and my vision.  Each week - no week is complete unless I spend time there.  It's the only place I feel like I am actually someone.  The world has a different view on that I'm sure.  I have worked on Family History for 25 years now - always fulfilling - sometimes heartbreaking.  29 years ago I went the the temple for the first time.  I was married in the Salt Lake Temple, my daughters were both married there also, my son was married in the Jordan River Temple and come August, my youngest will be sealed in the Oakland Temple.  This gave me the blessings of 4 more people to add to those that I love more than life itself, their spouses and spouse to be...  I can't think of a greater memory for me than those moments spent in those sacred places.  I can't think of anything I've ever done in my life more important than to make sure my children understand the importance of this gift - this rare opportunity in life - to pass on generation to generation to generation.... eternal families.  I may have failed at most everything I've tried to do - but this one, is a bingo.  So in case you need to be encouraged just a bit, I'll share a thought that was passed on to me this week.  It was sent from Mandy - but I'm pretty sure Grandma Elizabeth had something to do with it.

Any takers?

Gomer and I - one hot couple

Well, Gomer and I have been married for 29 years now.  As you can tell we are very compatible.  Gomer spent the day watching videos, and I spent the day in the back yard in the sun.  (His skin is so much nicer than mine)  When asked what amazing things we did for our anniversary, one might shy from answering it but no, not us, we'll share!  A little tight on money found us without that trip to Mexico - so we decided to work in the vinyard in the back.  Consisting of 4 grape vines now - whew hew, will the fun ever stop.  Last night Gomer said he needed 20 bucks to put gas in his truck - and that was what we needed to at least get a burger.  Only thing was that he only really had 18 and needed to borrow 2 dollars to make the 20 work.  I said - well, ok - I'll give you those 2 dollars and take you to dinner to boot.  He said, "yipee".... I would have thought a 'Yippeekiaiaiayippieia' might have been more appropriate.  So at the end of the night - the dinner and the gas cost me 32 dollars.... Oh that Gomer - always getting the upper hand.  Once we actually watched 2 videos in one night - darn right, good times.  Needless to say - I'm scanning the nursing homes for someone to replace Gomer.  Because excitement like this can kill a girl like me.  Just in case my children forgot (pray tell) that it was their parents anniversary - you can bet you've all been taken off of the Viper Will, and all been placed on the Bird Will.  It's ok - I'm not mad - heck I live with Gomer - and life is all that and them some.

Pass the remote...

Yep - we're 'dancin' with those trampy stars' fan(z)... it's sick and wrong.  Now and then we get stuck on some of the stupidest shows and we step out of our lives and become ballroom dancers.  I'm still waiting for Del to rip his shirt off and salsa with me... except he's such a neat freak - he would have to go upstairs, get a hanger, and hang it perfectly before taking even one dance step!  I use to be hooked on Biggest Loser - but it was difficult to actually see what I eat being removed from every menu there.  Look Bob Harper - I have plenty of water and lettuce, but I like bacon on it and that's that.  The Bachelor and Bachelorette - eh.... there's so many germs there.  Haven't really hooked up to Survivor or The World Race show whatever it's called.   American Idol has been interesting but I only hook up with that show when they get to the top 10... I haven't missed the other 5,000,000 that were cut.  I always feel bad when they show the really bad singers, because I see people that believe in themselves being belittled.  I believe that when I sing in the shower - the dog howling in the back yard is just happy for someone to sing with.  Mandy has me checking out 'The Voice' but I only like the swirly chairs and the big red stop buttons.  America's Got Talent.... yep - a lot of it is in Utah.  It's really sad around here after the big golden DWTS Disco Ball is presented to the last dancer standing and there is absolutely nothing to do until the next obsession starts... So You Think You Can Dance... bring it on... Wait - is that salsa music I hear?  Yep and he's getting out the hanger!  I'd give him a 10.

What's in YOUR name?

I listened to my mom call my name the other day - and I just kept thinking - WHY DID YOU GIVE ME SUCH A NAME?  The 'e' is actually pronounced in my name on the end - not something that the French - or actually the English understand.  I was named Nicole because of a friend of my parents in California when my dad was stationed there in the Marines.  The name stuck with them and they - gave it to me - their only daughter.  I have had to tell people my whole life that the e on the end is pronounced - and they still get it wrong!  Can't blame them!  THEN I went ahead and married a guy with the last name HILLARY - which REALLY confuses people...  but after reading the following information... I have to agree with a few things in it - so I ask you - what's in your name?  (notice it doesn't say 'freakisly strange and wierd' (lucky me)  Thanks Mom and Dad!  (June and Fred) (:

Nicole

Easter Rodants

We were invaded by Easter Rodents this year.
Last year it was the Chick Peeps - and now these!
WE CANNOT WIN!
There are no pesticides to kill them.  We actually
ripped out the eyes of the Chick Peeps and put them
around the frame of the front door.... but these
are tough little pests.
They thought they were on Jeff Dunham's
show - Peep Bunnies... on a steeek.
They were posers in my trees....
.... AND tried to take over the mail system.
But when they started partying
and rebalrousing....
that's when I had to call in the
... dun dun dun....
final straw..
Tiller we meet again
Happy Easter

Who? Huh? What?

Found this beautiful picture of Ashley with Grandma June.  My mom has so much love for her family, and it is always evident when she's around them.  It's been a tough week with mom, and her challenge to be still be mentally and physically all together.  I've hidden some funny post thoughts away for just today (but that means that they will show up very soon because life with Gma is outrageous)  because I need to write down a few difficult thoughts on aging parents.  I had a meltdown yesterday with my own mom.  She can't hear so you have to yell, and then she can't remember so you repeat the yell, and then you repeat it all in 5 minutes, and then you get frustrated and you just yell.  I have always tried to be kind to her - and to remember that I'm not very far off from where she is.  I'm looking for that book - you know - like the book you were suppose to get when you had children and you had no clue what you were doing?  Well, I need the book that helps you finish raising your parents when they are in their 80's and still work in the yard in the middle of the night, talk to imaginary friends, leave with people and not tell you where she's gone, lose their SS checks, again, and decide the Slim Fast is a great thing to have for dinner when you weigh 90 pounds.  I love my mom - and my heart aches to know what to do and how to help her.  I can't fix this - it's the plan of life - but I know so little about it all.  I have been sent an angel though - my Sister in Law Terri - she is the glue of the family and she is there in an instant for my mom when I can't be there.  She calms the crazies, finds mom when she's been missing for hours on end, makes sure she's at her appointments, and is mostly dressed before heading outside to get the newspaper.  I love this woman so much - she is a gift to all of us - and cannot be thanked enough.  I worry that the last thing I say to her - may be the last thing I get to say - so on my 4th phone call tonight to my mom - I told her how proud I was of her - I reminded her of how gracious of a woman she's been in her lifetime and how respected she still is.  I told her how much I loved her - and hoped to be a small portion of the woman she is.  She pretty much flew off the handle at me, and I, at that moment believed in Eternal Life - because I said - see you in the afterlife mom.... and clicked off the phone.  Whew - lost it pretty bad - but after listening to my Jesus tapes (S. Michael Wilcox) I am reminded that Heavenly Father will fill in the gaps where I lack.  So I called her back and apologized up and down the street to her - and she simply said - Oh there you are!  I've missed talking to you from clear last week.....    the after live.... I gotta get me some.  Love your parents - honor them.... make sure they have the right size depends, and that the last words you say to them are, "remember me - your daughter?"  Because tomorrow, she won't remember, and she'll get all excited again that she has one.
Love you Mom.... your only daughter.

Lucky Day, Lucky Us....

When my children were little - I would always pray for their spouses that they would find in the world in their future.  It seemed odd to some people, but it was important to me to have them know that somewhere out there, some amazing parents were raising a wonderful child that they would want the very best for them when they grew up.  I wanted them to know that they needed to live up to what those parents would want for their child.  I prayed that they would be strong in the same beliefs, want to be educated, live right, serve others, and mostly be protected and watched over until my child could find them.  I posted a post a last week - quickly and without thinking, about a wonderful event in our family that had just happened.  I pulled that post - because it deserved so much more than I gave it.  I want to make it very clear that all my prayers have been answered in so many ways, and that my life is richer because of this event.  I never knew the name of this beautiful girl, growing up in California, excelling in school, developing so many talents, staying close to the church, setting an example for all around.  I never knew that she would come to BYU and live a stones throw from my son apartment, and catch his eye with her contagious smile. I had prayed that someone like her would come into my son's life and bring so much love and joy and beauty.  I never knew that a week ago, she would accept his proposal, as my handsome son knelt on one knee and ask her to marry him.  But I know that she was meant to be.  I know that she is part of the great plan Heavenly Father has for my son.  How grateful I am that she led her life, so that when the stars lined up - she was with my son.  How grateful I am that her parents took the time to teach her love, and kindness, integrity and tenderness.  As I have come to know her more, I see the great influence her parents have had on her - and I know that my son will contribute to their family in the same way Katie has already contributed to ours. I am looking forward to the blessings that will come to the Lowrey and Hillary families because of this two amazing people. How wonderful it is that she is accepting of our family - even though she's now had dinner with us all around the table, with our loudness, and craziness, and imperfections.  I want her to know that she is so very welcome to our family.  My girls are not easy to let anyone in - we're not sure how to tell Ryan - but the girls love her so much they will beat him to the ground if he every does anything wrong.  I have watched her with Ryan - and have seen her love for him.  I have seen my son's emotions on his sleeve as he spoke of how he would ask her to marry him, and how he hoped she would say yes, and the look in his eyes of his love for her.  One of my favorite things about her is that she has the funniest laugh - when I hear it - the world is just a better place.  Long ago - a little boy came into my life.  I prayed for his future wife.  She has arrived.  So to you Katie, I say welcome.  To your parents, I say thank you.  To my family, how lucky we are to be able to have our family grow, and to imagine the wonderful things that will come from this union.  Congratulations to my son Ryan, and to Katie - who found each other - and were reminded that perhaps you promised each other in heaven, to find each other on this earth, and you did.
